Photo depicts Marysville as it looked until February 7, 2009 prior to being ravaged by devastating bushfires which reduced it and other communities to ashes and caused great loss of life. The resilient community is rebulding, but all help and donations are greatly welcomed. Please contact the Australian Red Cross for donations of any kind.
Marysville is a pretty sub-alpine resort town just 96 km n-e of Mebourne. It is surrounded by forested mountains, offers old fashioned hospitality and is a wintertime base for nearby Lake Mountain cross country ski fields. The settlement began in 1860s and the railway (1889) to Healesville helped establish Marysville as Melbourne’s honeymoon capital with many guesthouses and hotels being built to accommodate the many visitors. Marysville markets 2nd Sun each month. The Wirreanda Festival (Nov).
