Moe is a major Gippsland industrial centre located 135 km s-w of Melbourne. First settled by pastoralists in 1850s, coal mining became the town’s major industry after WWI. This was due to desperately needed power which resulted in the construction of a number of power plants over the years. Moe markets 2nd Sun each month. Fairies in the Park (Feb) Jazz Festival (Mar), Blue Rock Classic (Mar) and Moe Cup (Oct) both horseraces. 

Nearby:
Edward Hunter Heritage Bush Reserve (3 km south) 750 ha of protected bushland. Trafalgar Lookout & Narracan Falls (10 km west). Blue Rock Dam (20 km n-w) good recreational facilities, native flora & fauna and excellent fishing, swimming and boating. Thorpdale (22 km s-w) small potato town with annual Potato Festival (Mar). Baw Baw NP (90 km north) comprises the Thomson and Aberfeldy River valleys, high country scenery, scenic bushwalks and springtime wildflowrs. Mt Baw Bay is Melbourne’s closest alpine ski resort.
