Morgan SA 5320 (Pop 460)  

 

Morgan, also known as North West Bend, sits on a bend in the Murray River, 161 km n-e of Adelaide in SA’s Riverland district. This historic port was originally occupied by the Naralte Aborigines with white settlement beginning from 1850s. Named after the Chief Secretary at the time, Morgan became SA’s 2nd busiest port for some years. Today it is a quiet and peaceful holiday town.

 

Tourist Attractions & Info:
Port of Morgan Historic Museum, Riverfront, is housed within the old railway buildings and feature historic transport displays including the PW Mayflower (1884) SA’s oldest paddlewheel steamer, vintage vehicles, historic memorabilia and artefacts. Open (2pm-4pm) Wed/Sat/Sun. Historic Morgan (41 sites) including Morgan wharves (1877), Customs House & Courthouse.

Nearby:
Morgan Conservation Park (across river) 377 ha reserve of mallee scrub, river flats, swamps and prolific birdlife. White's Dam Conservation Park (9 km n-w) features arid region vegetations, over 60 bird species and large kangaroo numbers.
