Mortlake is an historic Western District township on the Hamilton Hwy 219 km west of Melbourne. Sitting at the base of Mt Shadwell, an extinct volcano, Mortlake is surrounded by rich volcanic plains supporting thriving wool and dairy farms. First occupied by the Kuurn Kopan Noot Aborigines, European settlement began in 1830s and many fine heritage bluestone buildings remain including Mt Shadwell Hotel (1855) & Mortlake Flour Mill (1856).
