Mount Magnet WA 6638 (Pop 970)

Mount Magnet is a mining and service town in WA’s Golden Outback 567 km n-e of Perth. The hill above the town was named because of the magnetic ironstone that affected compasses. Mount Magnet settlement was established in 1890s resulting from  the Murchison goldfinds and flourished until WW1 began.

Warramboo Hill Lookout (formerly Mount Magnet) good town and mine views. The Granites (7 km north) several hectares of rugged rock formations featuring a number of striking Aboriginal art sites. Paynes Find (144 km south) tiny settlement with old gold mine.
