Mullewa WA 6630 (Pop 440)

Mullewa is a typical Coral Coast region wheat town located 480 km north of Perth. European settlement began in 1850s followed by the all important railway (1894). Today Mullewa is noted for its spectacular wildflower displays in springtime and its various religious buildings designed by renowned architect-priest, John Hawes. Autumn Roundup (Apr), Mullewa Wildflower Show (Aug/Sept), Lions Street Festival (Dec).

Tourist Attractions & Info:
Monsignor Hawes Heritage Trail includes Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, The Priest House (now a museum), Pioneer Cemetery and Mass Rock at the old showground site where Hawes carved a simple altar to perform mass for the local indigenous tribes. Butterabby Gravesite (18 km south) marks the tragic events where a convict labourer was speared and 5 Aboriginals hung for the crime (1860s).
