 Myrniong Vic 3341 (Pop 200)

Myrniong is a pretty Daylesford region township located 73 km n-w of Melbourne. Sitting near the Lerderderg River, it was named after the Aboriginal name ‘murrnong’ for the yam daisy. Europeans settled in 1850s and today beef & dairy are both important industries. Myrniong has numerous fine bluestone buildings including the Plough Hotel (1859). Nearby is Pykes Creek Reservoir, Wombat State Forest, Werribee Gorge State Park & Mount Blackwood, an extinct volcano with panoramic views.

Visitor Information Centre: Council offices, 197 Main St, Bacchus Marsh. Tel (03) 5366 7100.
