Naracoorte is a large Limestone Coast region service town located 334 km s-e of Adelaide near the Victorian border. European settlement began from 1840s and prospered a decade later as a gold escort and miners’ stopover point to and from Victorian gold mines. Sheep's Back Wool Museum, McDonnell Street housed within an old flour mill (1870) depicts the district’s wool and sheep history. Naracoorte Art Gallery, Ormerod St with interesting local, Aboriginal and travelling exhibitions.

Naracoorte Caves Conservation Park (12 km s-e) comprises 460 ha of about 60 caves. World Heritage listed due to the 170 000 Pleistocene fossils found here, it has 4 caves (Alexandra, Victoria Fossil, Blanche & Bat) open to the public. Bool Lagoon Game Reserve (17 km south) 3 000 ha park of countless bird species with boardwalks over the wetlands and a bird hide. Lucindale (26 km west) pretty town with an historical museum and park containing flora, fauna, a swimming lake and bird haven. Padthaway (47 km n-w) important wine region.
