Narrandera NSW 2700 (Pop 4 800)
Narrandera is a lovely Riverina rural service centre 555 km s-w of Sydney. Sitting on the Murrumbidgee River, the town has been declared an urban National Trust conservation area. ‘Narrungdera’ a clan of the original inhabitants, the Wiradjuri Aborigines, account for the town’s name. Pastoral settlement began in 1830s but several severe droughts held expansion back. The development of the Murrumbidge Irrigation Area (1912) enhanced local primary industries which today include rice, fruit, wool, cereal & lucerne.
