North Stradbroke Island Qld

North Stradbroke Island is Queensland’s most easterly island. This large peaceful sand island (38 km long x 11 km wide) just 44 km east of Brisbane, is renowned for its pristine beaches, flora diversity and isolation. A vehicular ferry (as well as water taxis) travels from Cleveland to historic Dunwich, established in 1827 as a quarantine and penal settlement and whose cemetery has graves dating back to 1847. Blue Lake NP (10 km east of Dunwich) covers over 7 ha and has a huge range of native fauna. Nearby Brown Lake offers freshwater swimming. Amity Point and Point Lookout are the other main settlements on this island attracting a growing number of holiday makers.

Visitor Information Centre: Cnr Albert & Queen Sts, Brisbane. Tel (07) 3006 6200 or (07) 3006 6290.
