Ocean Grove is a popular Bellarine Peninsula holiday destination 101 km s-w of Melbourne. Together with its sister town, Barwon Heads which is separated by the Barwon River, Ocean Grove has the closest ocean beaches to Geelong as well as safe river beaches. Today tourism and fishing sustain the town’s economy.

Smiths Beach popular for swimming, surfing & fishing. Nearby are good waterskiing and diving spots together with several scenic walking trails. Foreshore Reserve great recreational facilities, walking & cycling tracks and lookout. The ocean is on one side and the river on the other with an old timber bridge (1927) linking Barwon Heads. Ocean Grove Nature Reserve, Grubb Rd covers 143 ha of unique native bushland, two walking trails (each 3 km) and 2 birdhides featuring over 130 various species.

Barwon Heads (3 km south) picturesque seaside town on the Barwon River with a koala & wildlife reserve. Reedy Swamp and Lake Connewarre (7 km north) mangrove swamps and wetlands with large migratory bird habitats and wildlife.
