Gloucester NP (1 km south) home to WA’s most famous karri tree, the Gloucester Tree. Standing at 60 m, it was one of 8 fire lookout trees built (1937-52) and named after the Duke of Gloucester who visited here. The 153 rung ladder leads to magnificent surrounding vistas. Warren NP (9 km s-w) covers over 3 000 ha of soaring karri forests, Warren River gullies and streams and a prolific birdlife. Dave Evans Bicentennial Tree offers picnic facilities and nearby bushwalks. Beedelup NP (18 km west) protects 1 786 ha of karri, jarrah and marri forests including the 75 m & 400 year old Walk Through Tree. Another highlight of the park are the rugged 106 m Beedelup Falls and an interesting suspension bridge nearby. Beedelup is Aboriginal meaning ‘sleep’ a very apt description for this peaceful and popular recreational park. Big Brook Dam (7 km north) excellent recreational and fishing (trout & marron) facilities with scenic bushwalking tracks. Big Brook Arboretum (7 km north) established 1928 to study various imported trees. Founder’s Forest (10 km north) stunning karri trees. Wineries include Salitage, Gloucester Ridge, Treen Ridge Estate, Houghton, Channybearup. Brockman Sawpit (15 km south) (1865) restored historic saw equipment.
