Portarlington is a picturesque historic resort town on the Bellarine Peninsula. Located 104 km s-w of Melbourne, one side of town faces Port Phillip Bay while the other focuses on hills of vineyards and olive groves behind. Originally occupied by the Wathawurung Aborigines, European settlement began in 1850s. Today tourism, fishing, aquaculture and agriculture support the local economy. Portarlington markets 1st Sun each month (Sept-Apr). Easter Art Show.

Historic Portarlington includes Portarlington Mill (1857), mill owner’s home 2 doors down (1850).

Nearby:
Indented Head (6 km s-e) quiet settlement with swimming, fishing and good recreational facilities. The sunken paddle steamer, Ozone (1925) can still be seen above the waterline.
