Quairading WA 6383 (Pop 600)
Quairading lies in the state’s Golden Outback region 169 km west of Perth. Early European settlement occurred around 1850s by the Parker family who grazed sheep in the area and began clearing the land. Quairading’s name, derived from the Aboriginal ‘Kwirading’ (home of a small brush kangaroo), became a gazetted township in 1907 followed by the advent of the railway. Today it is primarily a service centre for the surrounding sheep, grain and cattle farms.
