Ravenshoe is an interesting Tropical North town 1 771 km n-w of Brisbane. Located on the scenic Atherton Tablelands, Ravenshoe is Queensland’s highest town at an elevation of 930 m resulting in a pleasantly mild climate attracting those escaping the coastal heat and humidity. The town’s thriving timber industry came to a controversial halt in 1980s when the surrounding rainforests were World Heritage-listed. Timber workers were convinced the town would die but ironically, alternative lifestylers settled the community and brought renewed prosperity. Ravenshoe is surrounded by waterfalls (Tully, Millstream) located within national parks (Tully Gorge, Millstream Falls), state forests (Tumoulin and Ravenshoe 1, 2, 3) and the Innot Hot Springs.
