Raymond Island VIC 3880
Raymond Island is located 300 km east of Melbourne within the Gippsland Lakes area. It covers 760 ha and sits adjacent to Paynesville. Original inhabitants were the Kurnai Aborigines and today there is a small community of people with limited accommodation facilities whilst one third of the island is crown land. A tremendous drawcard for Raymond Island is the large koala colony introduced in 1953 as well as a prolific birdlife (honeyeasters, rainbow lorikeets, sea eagles to name a few). A continuous ferry service operates from Paynesville.
