Comments[0] Richmond QLD

Richmond Qld 4822 (Pop 600)

Richmond is a pretty Outback service centre on the Flinders River and Hwy 1 547 km n-w of Brisbane. This former ‘Tidiest Queensland Town’ is known for its lovely bougainvilleas and native shrubs & trees. Pastoralists settled the area in 1870s and nearby gold discoveries and the railway helped sustain the fledgling settlement. A number of ancient marine fossils have been discovered in recent years as this area was originally part of Australia’s inland sea. A fascinating fossil museum has been established around these finds. There are also several beautiful heritage buildings and an historic cemetery in Richmond while the Flinders River provides excellent fishing and swimming.

Accommodation: Richmond has a couple of motels, hotels and caravan parks. Visitor Information Centres: Council offices, 50 Goldring St. Tel (07) 4741 3277 or Kronosaurus Korner, 91 Goldring St. Tel (07) 4741 3429.
