Roebourne WA 6718 (Pop 900)
Roebourne is an interesting historic North West township 1 563 km north of Perth. Established in 1866, it is the oldest settlement between Geraldton and Darwin and was named after WA’s first Surveyor General, John Roe. Following Pilbara gold discoveries in 1880s and the establishment of an important pastoral industry, a tramway connected Roebourne with the coastal ports of Cossack and Point Samson, however the railway link between Marble Bar and Port Hedland (1912) instigated the demise of these settlements. Roebourne Cup & Ball (Aug), Cultural Festival (Sept).
