Tasmania’s SW Wilderness is a largely remote and isolated region located mostly east and somewhat south of Hobart. Dominated by a number of huge national parks, the largest is South-West NP (5 400 sq km) protecting some of the world’s most rugged wilderness coastline, together with a 150 km bushwalking trail, lakes (Pedder & Gordon) and a number of mountain ranges including Federation Peak (1 223 m). Franklin-Gordon Wild Rivers NP is located in Tasmania’s World Heritage epicenter. Cruise boats and seaplanes leave from Strathan. Main towns in the area include Queenstown, Zeehan, Strahan, Rosebery.
