Surfers Paradise is situated 78 km s-e of Brisbane and epitomizes the Gold Coast and its many attractions. Original inhabitants were the Banjalang Aborigines with white settlement beginning in 1840s. Tourism began here early with the first hotel built in 1923. Countless high rise developments followed from 1950s onwards resulting in Surfers Paradise’s reputation as the playground of the Gold Coast attracting visitors from all over the world.
