Comments[0] Swan island - Victoria
Swan Island

Swan Island

Swan Island VIC 3225

Swan Island is a small barrier island of 140 ha which separates Swan Bay from Port Phillip Bay. Located 110 km south of Melbourne, access is by a small bridge from Queenscliff on the Bellarine Peninsula. Ironically although it is home to the Queenscliff Golf Club, it is otherwise a highly restricted Defence Dept facility. The island has a long military history and was used to help protect Port Phillip Bay from a feared Russian invasion during the Crimean war in 1870s.

Visitor Information Centre: 55 Hesse St, Queenscliff. Tel (03) 5258 4843.
