Tailem Bend SA 5260 (Pop 1 500)

Tailem Bend is an important Murraylands service and transport centre. Picturesquely built on a cliff over the Murray River, the town is located 97 km s-e of Adelaide. Original inhabitants were the Ngarrindjeri Aborigines and due to its difficult terrain, European settlement only began seriously with the advent of the railway in 1886.

Historic Tailem Bend located within the Pioneer Village includes Wolseley Methodist Church (1900), Wattleford Methodist Church (1900), Long Flat Town Hall (1905), Peake Railway Station (1906).

Nearby:
Mt Rescue Conservation Park & Ngarkat Conservation Park (90 km s-e) 4WD starting point for exploring these two amazing parks. The latter comprises almost 267 000 ha of mallee and heathlands with numerous hiking trails and abundant wildlife and birdlife.
