Talbingo NSW 2720
Talbingo is a tiny Snowy Mountains settlement 452 km s-w of Sydney. It sits on the Snowy Mts Hwy between the Kosciuszko NP and Bago State Forest. The spectacular, ancient (over 400 million years old) Yarrangobilly Caves are found 25 km s-w and comprise about 60 caves, of which only 4 are open to the public (South Glory, North Glory, Jersey, Jillabenan). The first cave was discovered in 1830s and by 1890s, they were already a tourist attraction. The Thermal Pool was built in 1896 and retains a constant 27 deg C which makes it pleasant to swim the year round. However it should be noted, the pool is located 700 m down a steep track. No accommodation or camping facilities. Tel (02) 6454 9597.
