Tallangatta is a modern Murray region township located 365 km n-e of Melbourne. During the construction of the Hume Weir (1950s), the township of Tallangatta was relocated from the Murray River Valley to 8 km west and is now picturesquely located on Hume Lake. When the water levels of Hume Reservoir get very low, parts of the old town are once again visible. Tallangatta is surrounded by a spectacular Alpine scenery. Mt Granya and Mt Lawson State Parks are nearby offering diverse flora, fauna and birdlife, waterfalls, bushwalks, fishing and camping.
