Texas is a quiet South East Queensland township on the NSW border 322 km s-e of Brisbane. It sits on the Dumaresq River (pictured) but not as close as originally due to huge floods in 1890. Settled in 1840s by pastoralists, tobacco growing became an important industry until the 1950s. Today Texas acts as a service centre for the surrounding grazing district. Of interest nearby are Beacon Lookout, Cunningham Weir, Glenlyon Dam & Coolmunda Reservoir offering great views, fishing, camping and canoeing.
