Theodore is an unusual Gladstone hinterland region township 560 km n-w of Brisbane. Situated on the Leichhardt Hwy, this is a country service town with a difference largely due to its elegant buildings, charming air and tropical foliage. Theodore is surrounded by vast irrigated lands and rich soils sustaining thriving sheep & cattle grazing together with cotton, wheat and sorghum. The irrigation project began in 1920s feeding from the Dawson River and has proved a huge success. Isla Gorge NP (35 km south) features stunning cliffs and gorges and Aborginial hand paintings.
