Timber Creek NT
Timber Creek is a small, but important town in the Katherine region. It is also a stopping point on the Victoria Hwy between the Territory and WA's Kimberley region. Located 600 km south of Darwin, it was named by early explorer AC Gregory for its timber supplies. Timber Creek is also the gateway to Gregory NP, a 13 000 sq km park of spectacular gorges, rainforests, ranges and escarpment. A great variety of unique wildlife and fauna can be found here including the distinctive boab trees. It is mainly favoured by 4 wheel drive enthusiasts, as the Victoria Hwy cuts right through the park, allowing easy access to a number of lookouts and walks. Fishing competitions (Apr-May), Rodeo (May), Timber Creek races (Sept).
