Tin Can Bay is a quiet Fraser Coast fishing village 245 km north of Brisbane. It sits in a sheltered narrow inlet opposite the southern end of Fraser Island. Its name is said to derive from the Aboriginal word ‘Tuncanbar’ meaning ‘dugong’ which can still be seen here together with turtles, a prolific birdlife and friendly dolphins. European settlement began in 1870s. Tin Can Bay's protected location ensures a great variety of watersports and excellent fishing and prawning. Markets 3rd Sat each month. Dolphins are famous in this area for visiting the shoreline to be fed. Environmental Walkway an interesting 9.5 km boardwalk along the bay’s foreshores.

Rainbow Beach (41 km east) located across the inlet offering wide sandy beaches, a relaxed lifestyle and the fabulous coloured sands within the Cooloola part of the Great Sandy NP. Carlo Point ((43 km east) popular watersports area with inlet boat access.
