Tingha NSW 2369 (Pop 830)
Tingha is a picturesque NW NSW township 590 km north of Sydney. Following the discovery of tin in 1870s, thousands swarmed to the district – a quarter of them Chinese. One of Tingha’s most fascinating attractions is the Wing Hing Long Museum. One of several stores established in late 19th century to service the early miners, it was owned by Chinese merchants stocking produce, hardware, groceries (including Chinese goods), furniture, clothing etc. Tingha sits on Copes Creek which flows into Lake Copeton (20 km west). Copeton Waters State Park offers watersports, walking trails, accommodation and recreational facilities. Tel (02) 6723 6269.
