Trangie NSW 2823 (Pop 1 100)

Trangie is a pretty rural service centre in the Macquarie Valley Irrigation Area 481 km n-w of Sydney. The town’s name is thought to derive from the Wongaibon Aboriginal word meaning ‘quick’. The town developed from 1830s and local agriculture was greatly enhanced by the construction of the Burrendong Dam (1967). Trangie is renowned for its charming and welcoming country pubs - the oldest dating back to 1883. Major industries are cotton, cattle, wool and sorghum.
