Photo depicts Tully as it looked until February 3, 2011 prior to being devastated by Cyclone Yasi which resulted in huge damage and destruction but fortunately little loss of human life. The resilient community is rebulding, but all help and donations are greatly welcomed. Please contact the Australian Red Cross for donations of any kind.

Tully is an important Tropical North Qld sugar town at the foot of Mt Tyson 1 541 km north of Brisbane. It is one of the country’s wettest places with an annual average rainfall of 4.27 m. The heavy rains result in excellent whitewater rafting along the Tully River and the district also has some wonderful tropical rainforest walks. Tully was settled in 1870s and the river dammed in 1935 which today is the major electricity supplier for Cairns and Townsville. Banana growing also greatly contributes to the local economy. Markets 2nd Sat each month. Rodeo (July).

Accommodation:
Tully has a motel, a couple of hotels, 5 caravan parks and a backpackers. Visitor Information Centre: Bruce Hwy. Tel (07) 4068 2288.
