Tumbarumba is a delightful township between the Riverina and Snowy Mountains regions 476 km s-w of Sydney. The Wiradjuri Aborigines named the area meaning ‘sounding ground’ referring to parts of the ground that sound hollow. Europeans settled in 1830s followed by gold discoveries two decades later that lasted until 1930s. Tumbarumba has retained its old world charm with many historic buildings and its economy is dominated by agriculture, sheep, cattle, timber and tourism.
