Warialda is a pretty New England service township 580 km north of Sydney. It sits at the intersection of the Fossickers Way and Gwydir Hwy and is surrounded by rich farming land. Original inhabitants were the Weraerai Aborigines who named the area thought to mean ‘place of wild honey’. White settlement began in 1830s bolstered by the railway (1901). Famous bushranger, ‘Capt Thunderbolt’ was active in the area in 1860s. Local economy relies on wool, wheat and sorghum. Agricultural Show (May), Flower Show (Oct).
