Western Suburbs - Sydney NSW
Sydney's western suburbs span a huge area between 4 - 60 km from the CBD but there are no clear definitions of exactly where they begin and end. The inner west comprises the suburbs of Glebe, Pyrmont, Rozelle, Balmain, Leichhardt, Newtown amongst others and they are predominantly medium-high density residential areas with some commercial and industrial sectors. There are many schools and colleges and an interesting ethnic mix of languages and cultures. There are also large gay and lesbian populations with several well established pubs/bars that they frequent. Many more suburbs continue to sprawl westwards including Ashfield, Homebush, Granville, Parramatta, Blacktown, St Marys and Penrith. These areas are an Anglo/ethnic mix of working to middle class residences, commercial premises and industrial estates. Most are very built up and a number of motorways help relieve the congested peak hour traffic. The whole region is well serviced by trains, buses, ferries and light rail.
