Whitsunday Islands Qld 4802

The Whitsunday Islands are a collection of beautiful and popular Great Barrier Reef islands named by Capt Cook (1770) when he passed through the Whitsunday passage on Whit Sunday. The Whitsundays offer almost perfect weather conditions, a huge range of sporting activities and a great diversity in accommodation.  The ‘town’ of Whitsunday was established in 1987 comprising the small villages of AirlieBeach, Cannonvale, Jubilee Pocket and Shute Harbour. The main islands in the group consist of Brampton (32 km n-e of Mackay, Daydream (5 km n-e of Shute Harbour), Hamilton (16 km s-e of Shute Harbour), Hayman (25 km n-e of Shute Harbour), Hook (20 km n-e of Shute Harbour), Lindeman (67 km north of Mackay), Long (9 km s-e of Shute Harbour), South Molle (8 km east of Shute Habour), Whitsunday (25 km east of Shute Harbour).
