Yarra Glen is a charming town situated in the heart of the Yarra Valley. Noted for its many wineries, this area is only 58 kms n-e of Melbourne on the Melba Hwy. First settled in 1830s by pastoralists and later dairy farmers, the earliest vineyards were planted in 1838 and today remain the area’s economic mainstay. Markets 1st Sun each month (Oct-June). Grape Grazing Festival (Feb), Yarra Valley Expo (May).

Grand Hotel, (Bell St) (1881) This National Trust building is one of the town’s most impressive.

Nearby:
Wineries More than 50 wineries surround the town with many having cellar door sales and tastings. Sugarloaf Reservoir Park (10 km west) pretty area for sailing, fishing and walking with an 18 km trail around the reservoir. Open (8.30-5pm) daily. Kinglake NP (north) picturesque 22 360 ha park divided into 3 sections which features a number of waterfalls (Masons and Wombelano), messmate forests, fern gullies, excellent walking trails and several lookouts with spectacular views. Tragically, much of this area was devastated by bushfires in February, 2009.
