Yarram is a Gippsland service town situated 221 km s-e of Melbourne. This former swamp was aptly named by the local Aborigines as it means 'plenty of water'. Yarram was first settled in 1850s and continued to grow as a marketplace for district farmers. Tarra Festival (Easter), Seabank Fishing Contest (Nov).

Historic Yarram includes the Court House, old hotel (1912) and the beautifully restored Regent Theatre (1928).

Nearby:
Tarra-Bulga NP (20 km n-w) 2 000 ha peaceful park within the Strzelecki Ranges of fern gullies, dense rainforests, breathtaking walking trails and waterfalls (Cyathea & Tarr). Over 130 bird species and many mammals make their homes here. Won Wron State Forest (16 km north) lovely picnic area, bushwalks and springtime wildflowers. Beaches include Manns (16 km s-e) (fishing), McLoughlin’s (23 km east), Woodside (29 km east) (fishing, swimming, surfing). Blackwarry (27 km north) interesting ghost town with a blackberry growing and gold history.
