Yea is an attractive rural township on the Yea River 144 km n-e of Melbourne. Originally occupied by the Woiwurung Aborigines, European pastoralists arrived in 1830s with gold discovered in 1850s. Yea has suffered two disastrous floods (1934 and 1973) and fire (1969). The fertile Yea Valley is ideal for the area’s thriving dairying and pastoral industries.

Accommodation:
Yea has a couple of motels, hotels, holiday cottages and a caravan park. Visitor Information Centre: Old Railway Station,
Station St. Tel (03) 5797 2663.
